From Realism to Virtual Reality: Images of America Wars blog response

From realism to virtual reality: images of America wars talks about the history of the industrial revolution how we used our weapons over the years and how technology and other subjects change over time. H. Bruce franklin explains about one pitecular war saying deglamorizing images of that war, however were not produced by literature but directly by technology itself. Then he went on about how war impacted our way on life by sickness, emotional disorder, leadership, and murder. I think this is the one that I dislike the most yea we are a free country yea we have rights but did you see or feel what our past fellows went through is bizarre. Its very horrifying I mean I don’t think I would ever have dreams or sleep again. Its very emotional to see the bodys of the people who sacrificed their lives for these countries. I myself find these wars quite stupid and meaningless. We should not fight to be free we should not fight for territory and especially we  should not fight to be right. When we were little they told us fighting is not the answer how hypritocal that the grown ups still have armys and bombs and are waiting for world war 3 to start. No one should shed blood for something we can do so in peace. It just breaks my heart I think I’m sounding hippie in the last few sentences. Maybe that’s why in the 60s it was so important because the people saw what we were doing was wrong it was just plain wrong.

The Charms Of Wikipedia blog response

The charms of Wikipedia explains about the importance of this shocking interesting website. Talks about how we use it how much it has change over time and what it has to offer. It also shows feedback and how Wikipedia was the point of convergence. It also points about facebook ebay nyspace aol  even google. I wish I can create a website that will help people and I don’t know even change their outlook on life. I use to use Wikipedia a lot in elementary whenever we had school projects. Especially in 5th grade when we started using the computer more often. In middle school it helped me in test and almost every subject in school up to I was a freshman in high school people kept telling me including teachers that it was using fake info and that people can easily edit the information based on what they believe. It was to that point I stopped using Wikipedia. Even in the story talks about how one peticular person said BED BUGS MOTHER FUCKER THEY GON GET YO MOTHA FUCKING ASS BRAAAAAAAAAAT FOOL BRAAAAAAAAAAAAP. The fact that vandalism was also increasing changed our view on this website. People were just reading made up facts on Wikipedia. That must of affected it a lot. Now I just use google and different websites more carefully I read what I know is true or I search it up just in case it’s not. Its very rave for me to use Wikipedia for school now.

Is Google Making Us Stupid? Blog Response

So Nicholas Carr is explaining a story about how our brain works and how technology is affecting it. His question is Google Making Us Stupid? I think I’m in the middle on this one the whole web searching for answers for our homework or test does help with the answer that is making us stupid but google maps foes help people a lot to get around in the world without getting lost and it does help people discover things we don’t really know or understand. Nicholas also talks about how google or technology is affecting people on reading and that he’s not the only one who’s seeing this. He also said that its changing on how we read that we are avoiding traditional reading and making our new reading. But thanks to cellphones computers and television we’ve been reading more than the 1970s or 1980s. He walked about a person getting headaches with reading and that he was forced to curtail his writing. I remember when I was in elementary we had to read 30 min a day bringing me with minor headaches but it did improve my reading and vocabulary skills. In this story I really learned about the brain how it works how we use it to transfer words and through it. Some time ago someone said that the Internet promises to have particularly far-reaching effects on cognition. That person was right we see the Internet in our cellphones clocks printers calculators even in tvs . Its amazing how far we have spread with this technology.

blue-collar brilliance blog response

In this blog response mike rose talks about her mother as a waitress the life of being a waitress and how much work and effort it takes physically and mentally . He and his father would always wait until hos mother shift ended. It reminds me of mu father and his job he would wake up at 5 in the morning go to work and come home everyday at 6 in the afternoon he will tell us how he works with machines chemicals and computer. He will tell us how his job is connected to NASA. How its very important to be safe and aware of your surroundings. Yes of course he would come home tired but if he ever had a day off he would feel impatient uncomfortable it just wasn’t right. So I can really relate to this blog response and what mike went through. My dad came to this country with little to no money in his pocket he got a job he became a citizen and helped all his brothers and sisters now they all have citizenship jobs homes of their own. He also quit school because of that he helped his own parents Stand on their own two feet . My mother brothers and sisters are very aware and proud of what my father has done. We all appreciate what he’s done and can’t thank him enough. Jobs help us as individuals. It doesn’t all need to be education. Some people just have natural skills sometimes our jobs find our careers for us.

Learning to Read Blog Response

In the story basically shows patience and learning will definitely help you go far in the future. Its like a bridge to freedom reading is freedom. It talks about a common slave owned by his teacher and mistress. This mistress taught him how to read and write something their not allowed to do It was the law back them to teach a slave how to read it was forbidden and if you were caught you would suffer saviere consequences even death. So no he wasn’t any ordinary slave he waited for his opportunity and he used his intelligents as in reading and writing and took what belong to him his freedom. He was very smart even though other opportunities came to him like running off to the north he wouldn’t do it he just stuck with his books and writing. I like this I’ve noticed myself that learning the English language writing, speaking, and reading it has definitely improved. Thanks to my english teachers for always putting me to read and write. Also my job interacting with people has definitely improved my speaking. It really shows how big your imagination can go with reading. The importance to read and write is so big its what makes our world go round is how we communicate and understand one another.I wonder how our world would be if we didn’t have those things. I’m pretty sure it would be totally different maybe even worst. Who knows, I’m just glad I’m able to do these thing because apparently their still people who can’t read and write that are my age and older.

On Writing by Stephen King Blog Response

I honestly think this might be my favorite response yet. I like how Stephen King’s explains how his prospective changed on writing because of one person Gould. I can really relate to this passage because I still need to find what exactly I’m passion it about. So I’m guessing I need some motive or inspiration. The other reason I can relate to this passage is because I like when they edit my papers it just helps me more to achieve success in my writing. Its like one step closer to being just right not perfect but right. I also like the criticism its good feedback because I’ll know I’m not done yet . It helps me know what I can change in the future. Writing has definitely become something part of me. I love that I can put passion, aggression, and much more. I definitely put a lot of emotion to whatever I’m doing and writing just explains why I love writing stories on fiction, non fiction, biographies, and others too. I guess I need more time to learn about writing to actually say I’m ready for the next step of my life. The whole write the story like your telling yourself the story really made an impact. I’m thinking of using that on our next essay assignment. What I don’t like about writing it takes time sometimes a lot of time it may take years before you publish a book. The scare of people might not liking your story makes my stomach turn. In that case I’m going to try it if I don’t like it its not to late to change my mind.

“Why colleges shower their students with A’s” Blog response

In the passage “Why College students shower their students with A’s” by Brent Staples talk about students earning easy A’s by teachers and the reasons why. It explains why kids are willing to do anything for an “A”,how important grades are to both the teachers and students, how it can affect our GPA, how much competition their is for applying schools and getting accepted. Also how earning an A can solve some financial issues. Students today are not satisfied with a simple “C” or “D” it’s not good enough for K-12 grade schools especially not for college now a “B” is considered passing or average to most. It seems like we are all aiming for that “A” now… Getting accepted is already hard enough but getting A is a challenge.Passing tests, guizzes, turning in homework on time is a challenge, takes a lot of your time and effort.  I’m glad some professor’s are willing to give you a fresh breath of air and lend you the A after they see how much you have struggle and stressed for that A. But I’m disappointed for those that don’t see the effort have different beliefs in grades, don’t believe in passing or failing, &  would rather pass everyone. That’s ridiculous, irresponsible, and ignorant. We all in this world don’t need to have it easy in life. We need to fail to LEARN from our mistakes we need challenges to improve we need to know where we stand in performance to achieve greatness we can not and will not settle.

“College pressures” blog response

In the essay by William Zinsser  “College Pressures”  explains how hard college is. For example: In my case my first problem was financial  problems I didn’t know how I would pay for my classes since I had no support from my parents due to moving 2 hours away from them. I had only two hundred in my pocket I needed a job the only thing I had was  a place. The one who saved me from this stressful misery was my partner Cristian Serna he lend me the money so I can go to college until I received my finacial aid, well that takes of one problem then I had to pay for books also expensive. In top of that I still needed a job and after searching online applying the first job I applied accepted me . It was target they interviewed me I got accepted for seasonal but I made it through the 90  days and they let me stay. After that was passing grades since I was getting more hours at work I was receiving less time for school juggling them both is still a problem today. When your parents pressure you on what major your going to do is worst especially if your the oldest of five who look up to you. I’m still considering If I should apply for classes next year or If I should just work until I’m settled and have more time. Everyday its the same thing . But luckily my proffessors at IVC have been very good, especially how they explain something you just get it on top of your head its very easy to understand. I just wish we didn’t have to take test or quizzes to know if we do.

The Slogan: ‘Well-Behaved Women Seldom Make History'”

In the essay, “The Slogan: “Well-Behaved Women Seldom Make History” written by Laurel Thatcher Urlich, was about a slogan to help recover the lives of otherwise obscured women.I was inspired by the movement of a simple quote on well-behaved women rarely make history. All the personal experiences they tell her in the mail are incredibly amazing. But I was also amazed how they use this quote in a negative way like when they put here picture on a shirt without her permission and all they could say was “I guess we are not very well-behaved girls.”  She wrote this long ago but it’s become something we can’t avoid any longer today. We are turning this into action. I was also excited because what she mentioned the word  feminist and it’s something I’m going to write my own definition of in my next writing assignment. This is definitely going to help me not only on my writing assignment but in the future if I ever want to fight for equality. When she mention Rosa parks she was also my example in my writing assignment. I especially like the song that inspired singer Kacey Jones who performed their theme song on Garrison Keillor’s radio show. Now they name them the historical chicks. It’s mange to change in political ways as well. When I read this quote I see a change in us a chance to be ourselves to be different from the sterotypes to be equal and finally to be proud of being born a women.
